Boycott - a refusal to have dealings with an organization in order to express disapproval

I have a boycott policy against Hewlitt Packard (HP)

Hewlitt Packard (HP) was added to my boycott list due to poor customer service.

I have used Hewlitt Packard (HP) printers for many years and never had a single complaint. The printers always worked well, they lasted a long time, and gave me much less trouble than printers made by other manufacturers.

When my business was getting ready to upgrade all personal computers (which happens every few years), I decided to order a computer from Hewlitt Packard (HP) and see if it would hold up to the demands of our work centers.

I started by ordering a complete system with the latest processor and hardware, which arrived in good condition. I unboxed everything, set up the work center, and it booted up properly. The next time I turned it on, it crashed (which happens a lot with Winduhs). We are a Linux shop, so I considered reloading the box - but after reading 'the fine print' it said that would void the warranty.

Since I was going to be stuck with Winduhs, I looked for the media to reload the box and there weren't any Winduhs media disks included. I called HP technical support, and they said I do not get an OS media disc. I said, "Huh? I paid for it - what do you mean I don't get one???" They said not to worry, the media had been located on a secret partition of the hard drive. I explained that the boot sector was corrupted so the only way to fix everything is to reformat and start all over. Without an OS media, I would be stuck with a broken box that worked for only one day.

I knew immediately that we were never going to be able to use HP for our business PCs. I was so glad that I had only ordered one PC! Working with their clueless tech support, minutes turned to hours, hours turned to days, days turned to weeks, and still no working PC and still no correct OS media to fix it. I finally boxed everything up and sent it back.

I guess I will stick with using Hewlitt Packard printers, but anything else is out of the question. Oh yeah, three weeks after I had returned the computer - a media disk arrived... I sent it back too!
