Sacred Cherokee Formulas - A True National Treasure

I recently discovered a true national treasure when I ran across an 1891 report of the Bureau of American Ethnology. These reports were published annually and they document the language and culture of the native Americans. In a portion of the 7th annual report, James Mooney faithfully documented the sacred formulas of the Cherokee shaman.

The report covers nearly every subject pertaining to the daily life and thought of the Cherokee Indian, including medicine, love spells, hunting ceremonies, warfare, self-protection, the destruction of enemies, witchcraft, agriculture, and recreation.

"The time will come... when the few remnants of our once happy and improving Nation will be viewed by posterity with curious and gazing interest as relics of a brave and noble race... Perhaps, only here and there a solitary being, walking, 'as a ghost over the ashes of his fathers,' to remind a stranger that such a race once existed."
-Elias Boudinot - November 25th, 1836
